Each year we kick off ALA Fall Meeting at with a private luncheon in honor of our annual scholarship winner - an upcoming second year of law student at the University of Texas School of Law.Annual Book Drive
Each year we host a a book drive to provide children's books to a worthy Austin organization. This year we will be donating to Helping Hand Home, an amazing organization whose mission is to provide a nurturing and therapeutic home for children and to restore each child to a healthy family setting. We have "lists" created on Amazon that will allow you to select a book for a proper age group and it will be sent directly to our organization for distribution to the designated organization. Adoption Day Volunteer Decorating!
Each year the Austin Bar hosts the Annual Adoption Day on the first Thursday in November at Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center. Plans are underway for 50 children to be placed with 33 forever families during the day-long event. As in years past, we help transform the Courthouse into the Wizard of Oz with a yellow brick road, a rainbow arch made out of balloons, and characters dressed like Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man – all to celebrate “there’s no place like home.” Piles of teddy bears decorate each courtroom and the children can pick out their favorite to take home, along with books carefully selected from a donated library of children’s books.
Other Charitable Projects
In addition to all our volunteer projects, the Austin Lawyers' Auxiliary contributes financially to other worthwile charities in Austin. Next year, we will be donating funds to the Free Legal Clinics for Veterans.
